Turtle's Gift Medical,Wellness A few odds and ends

A few odds and ends

First, for those of you interested in learning more about Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, I recommend you check out Steven Hayes’ blog. Hayes is one of the founders of ACT, as well as a professional association that advances something they like to call “contextual behavioral science”. In his latest posts, Hayes highlights a publication of the World Health Organization: a self-help guide entitled “Doing What Matters in Times of Stress”. As it says in the preface, the text “provides information and practical skills to help people cope with adversity”. Take a look.

Second, I’m registered with a handful of organizations that study inherited cancer syndromes. These groups periodically publish updates for patients as new information in the field is uncovered. One of these organizations is the Inherited Cancer Registry (ICARE), who just put out their 2022 spring newsletter. One of the things I’ve come to appreciate about inherited cancers is that many of them are survivable if caught early enough, so I’m a big advocate for testing and screening. As I see it, I can attempt to tame the devil I know, but there’s not much I can do about the devil I know nothing about!

Lastly, I just added a messaging capability to the site so you can communicate directly with other users registered on Turtle’s Gift. This allows you to contact other members without having to exchange email addresses, phone numbers, etc. It also affords some additional privacy since all correspondence is stored local to the site. To send and receive messages just visit the “Message Center”.

That’s all for now. Be well!
