Turtle's Gift Faith,Wellness Crooked lines

Crooked lines

“God draws straight paths with crooked lines”. Funny how sometimes it takes a lifetime before you stumble upon a snippet of truth that’s been passed around for centuries. Our priest shared that little proverb at daily mass the other week.

I must admit, all I ever seem to see are the crooked lines. Life just seems to be an endless parade of ups and downs, moments of turmoil and peace, acts of love and hate, beginnings and endings. Once I think I know where I’m zigging, life decides to zag – and the zag just seems to make things worse.

Yet, when I take the time to reflect on my life as a whole, I can see a direction and purpose to it – and what I see is good. I realize that in moments of anxiety and despair current psychology recommends we focus on the present moment, and I agree with that. I’m a “daily bread” guy after all. But at these times I think its also worth reminding ourselves that even in our crooked lives God is drawing a straight path. Thank heaven for that!
