Anxiety has been a passenger on my bus ever since I can remember. “Stop, there’s danger ahead!” he’ll bark at me. Or, “You’re making a wrong turn!” He chatters incessantly during the trip, and constantly interrupts every conversation. Ugh!
But how did I get in the driver seat, anyway? Psalm 23 is a favorite of mine. “The Lord is my shepherd” it reads, “he makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me besides still water, he guides me along right paths.”
All this while I’ve been led to believe I’m the one who’s supposed to be driving the bus. Perhaps it’s time to hand over the keys to someone better equipped for the job. Someone who knows the destination, and exactly the best way to get there. Someone who’s not flustered by all of the other passengers on the bus. Here are the keys, Good Shepherd. Move over anxiety, someone else is behind the wheel, and I’d like to enjoy this ride for a while!
