I wanted to dedicate at least one post to talk about a collection of food compounds that don’t attract all the attention they deserve: flavonoids. Flavonoids are naturally occurring chemicals found in citrus fruits. There’s a concentrated version of the compounds called “micronized purified flavonoid fraction” (MPFFs) that are commonly available in vitamin/nutrition stores. Two MPFFs, “diosmin” and “hesperidin”, are typically combined in one supplement marketed under the name “Daflon”. MPFFs are really good for your veins, helping conditions such as hemorrhoids, varicose veins, venous insufficiency, and other circulatory issues. But there’s much more this little citrus powerhouse can do. For more information, check out this article published in the journal “Biomedicines”. After giving it a read, I think you’ll be asking yourself: Did I have my flavonoids today?
