Names in themselves define limits and boundaries on things, so how is one to name God? When I read the Bible, I always think to myself, how could anyone dream this stuff up? The answer of course is that no one has dreamt it up, because this is God’s story to tell. Here in particular we learn the name God would have us call him by: I AM. Simple yet sublime. Decartes’ assertion is similar but comes with a precondition: “Cogito ergo sum“. In God’s case, there’s no precondition necessary. God is: always has been, always will be. Thank God for that!
Whom should I say sent me?
