Until recently, the Book of Tobit was just an odd tale about an old guy who got bird poop in his eyes, and a young bride for whom marriage was a husband’s death sentence. Strange stuff for sure. But this week as I listened to the story unfold at daily mass I realized it’s not such a strange tale after all, and is actually quite inspirational. The message is simple but powerful: do good, have faith in God, and give him thanks. And when you think all is lost, do not give up hope, for throughout life’s trials you might discover there’s an angel at your side looking out for you.
