It took me a while, but I finally remembered where that line came from. Bruce Willis’ character, Malcolm Crowe, utters it at the end of the “Sixth Sense”. First in life, and then later in death, Malcolm just wanted to help people. That struck a cord.

My son Matt, a.k.a. Turtle, kept a journal of daily reflections towards the end of his illness – little snippets of thoughts that helped him focus on the upcoming day. In one of these he wrote:
I have life goals, but they’re not ultra specific.
Simply I love my wife and believe I can help the sick.
Each day step towards those goals
and be honest with myself what I can attain.
Everyone has negative experiences,
simply focus and build towards my goals!
Matt’s disease caused him to place much more attention on finding purpose and meaning in every day. That’s something all of us can do, even when we’re not shouldering illness.
Sharing Matt’s story is one way Matt can continue to achieve one of his life’s goals. He thought he could help the sick… I think he did, and is doing so still!
Thanks Matt!
