Welcome 2023! While I’m typically not the type to make New Year’s resolutions, it’s good to mix things up every now and then, so this year I’ll give it a try. My resolution? Try to post an entry to this blog every couple days.
If I haven’t mentioned it before, I’m a creature of habit, and one of my habits is attending daily Mass. Well not actually daily, but rather every other day, since my church only offers a 7:00AM Mass on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
Of course every Mass offers an opportunity to recite the Lord’s Prayer. Every part of that prayer offers a lot to reflect upon, but one line always grounds me in present moment: “Give us this day our daily bread.” Jesus clearly recognized that we humans need a dose of God’s assistance every day of the week. Moreover, every day provides an opportunity to make this world a little better.
When my son Matt took to journaling during his illness, he make a conscious effort to post a reflection every day, even if it was only a sentence or two. In that spirit, I’ll try to do the same here. Dear God, give me this day my daily bread!
